Thursday: It’s All About the Socks

What a tale of woe I have to weave today. It began when I put down my Hermione’s Everyday Socks in October of last year to work on grief knitting, which then turned into Christmas knitting, which then turned into test knitting, which then turned into ulnar nerve problems, which then turned into…you get the picture.

The good news is that I have one sock finally complete. So, I have a HO (Half Finished Object). The bad news is that it’s totally off pattern from where I stopped last year. I remember telling you how I had messed up the pattern and meticulously tinked back to where I had started. Well, this time it really caught me unaware as I didn’t notice until I was 8 rows into the toe decreases. Boo…hiss! I had a dilemma on my hands. Tink back again? Or just continue and finish the darn sock. You can see below what I decided to do, justifying that these are for me and no one, except my husband ,will see the foot of the sock. It fits perfectly and I learned the kitchener stitch, so that’s good news.

Now, I’m stuck on second sock syndrome. I desperately want to have a full pair of finished socks made from gorgeous sock yarn. I cast on and completed three rows on March 27th. Have I touched itย since then? No. I really need to get out of my own head and just get on with it. I’m having a case of…well, I knit one…oh, look at all the other pretty things out there to knit. I’m even looking at other sock patterns! Yep, that just about covers it.

Some of our sock club buddies are offline for now; however do go and check out Hannahย cause she’s rocking her socks, just like me!

Until next time, Happy Knitting!

Am I mistaken, or are your legwarmers Doctor Who themed? I seem to recall a pair that my sister was looking at that look like yours. Great socks! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. At first, I was like…what leg warmers? Then I looked at the picture and saw what you meant. Those are actually really funky looking yoga pants ๐Ÿ™‚ They are space looking; however I don’t think inspired by Doctor Who. There are lots of purples, pinks and blues.

O I love the toe being in stockinette! It looks so beautiful, and would be twice as nice with two! It is so hard to put my head in the game too- the sock Thursdays are helping though. I’m the same as you in that I’m completely sick of the second sock but it doesn’t stop me from buying sock yarn or planning my next pattern to try, or telling a friend I’ll knit her a pair! I’m glad you mentioned that as it doesn’t make any logical sense to me, but if we are doing it, there must be plenty of others too. I too am a big fan of the yoga pants. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you, Hannah! I must confess that I still haven’t picked it up; however I’m working on something that is completely inspiring me right now. I’ll post more about it soon! Hopefully I’ll finish that project this weekend and then get back on that second sock ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. The pics aren’t coming up for me ๐Ÿ˜ฆ but well done anyway. I wonder if your reluctance is down to the first turning into such an epic and still ending up not perfect. Good though to you for not tinking back the second time – perfection is overrated. Trying keeping reminding yourself this second will be more fun and you’ll be able to have another go at your lovely new skill of Kitchener stitch.

    1. Oh, I’m so sorry the pics aren’t coming up for you! I tried to make them a smaller size; however the picture editor within wordpress wasn’t cooperating with me. I am also glad I didn’t tink again. I think I would have never finished the sock if I had done that ๐Ÿ™‚ Actually, I almost frogged the whole thing when I realized I had messed up the pattern again. I’m glad I didn’t.
