30 Day Knitting Challenge – Day 24

Have you ever made your own pattern or dyed your own yarn? How did it turn out?

I haven’t made my own pattern or dyed my own yarn; however I am interested in doing both! I’ve watched videos on YouTube for how to dye yarn and I think it would be super fun. I just need to make the time to do it…plus I really need to whittle down my stash before I jump into buying more yarn. I’ve also got some ideas floating around in my head for some hats, cowls and shawls. Maybe one day they will jump out of my head and onto paper.

I did however add to a pattern! I made Hugo the Couch Potato Monster for my great nephew Athan and I didn’t want to use felt for the teeth, as was called for in the pattern. He’s three years old and I was worried that he would tear it off or it would come off in the wash. So, I crocheted teeth and sewed them to the monster. Does that count as making my own pattern? I looked online and on Ravelry and couldn’t find anything that I liked, so I just started experimenting.

You can read more about it on my Ravelry page if you would like to use the pattern for the teeth in one of your future projects. Here are some pictures that I haven’t shared…Athan with his new monster and some pics of the blanket that I crocheted for his new brother Anden! I think he likes it 🙂

Crocheted teeth – what a great idea! That totally counts as a pattern, all on its own!

  3. What lovely photos — and what a contrast from thinking about people who don’t appreciate gifts! That is one happy little boy!! (And I love the monster and the blanket!)
