Once Upon a Sock – September 2018

OnceUponaSockroundedrectangle

Hi All!

Do you knit or crochet socks? Do you like to blog about them and share your progress? The first Thursday of every month, my friends and I link up with each other and talk about our socks…the good, the bad, and the ugly. The beauty of a link up party is the ability to jump in and out when you want to share….even if you’ve knit just one row or want to talk about what you’re dreaming of making next. Click the link below to join in, follow the instructions, then link back to my blog so we can all share in the happiness of your gorgeous socks! Feel free to use the beautiful OUAS images Stefanie, from stefaniecraftswithwoolpaperfabric, created just for us. All three are included within my blog.

First, I apologize for the delay in getting today’s post out. I am currently on the East Coast so things are a little bit different. I also spent all day yesterday at the tattoo parlor getting memorial tattoos with my family for my dear, sweet cousin (more like a sister) Nichole. I will create a separate post for that. I just haven’t been ready to talk about it as of yet in the way she deserves. I included a pic of the finished tattoo below, in case you haven’t seen it on Instagram. The unicorn will be white when it heals. This is just the way my skin reacts to getting a tattoo. Remind me not to take Advil right before I go the next time 🙂

Second, I really thought I would make tremendous progress on my socks. I thought I would finish them. I even brought extra sock yarn with me. That did not happen due to stupid mistakes and having to frog back multiple times. However, I have made progress and I’d like to share that with you today.

Just a reminder, these are the Jelly Rolls by Mara Catherine Bryner. The yarn is from West Yorkshire Spinners and the colorway is Rum Paradise. I am so in love with this colorway!!!! I did get to show them to my cousin, who they were for, and she adored it too. Once I finish them, I will honor her memory and smile every time I wear them 🙂

As of the last post, I was 6 rows away from having the gusset increases completed. I finished that, got through the contrast ribbing for the center of the foot, had to rip it all out because I kept getting messed up on which row I was on, reknit the contrast ribbing, and now I’m several rows into the stockinette of the foot. I may be able to breeze through that part sometime this week. So, yes, I’m going to say that I will definitely (fingers crossed) have a completed pair of socks to show you next month 🙂 Look how close I am to that toe! (You can click any image to make it larger.)

Until next time, Happy Knitting!

  1. I am so sorry for your loss, Paula. What a fantastic way to remember your cousin – it’s just the most brilliant tattoo. And yay for the WYS Rum Paradise colourway – that yarn helped me through a tough time last year and made some socks which always make me smile. x

    1. Thank you so much, Kat. I will definitely post more about it; however she approved the tattoo before she passed. This yarn is definitely making me smile and I’m so glad I already had it on the needles.
