Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything other than my monthly sock post! And this project is probably one of the main reasons why. I first wrote about it in July of last year. You can read that post here. I even commandeered one of my Once Upon a Sock posts recently to update you on my progress since then.
You may have seen some of my update posts on Instagram, if you follow me there. But, if not, I thought I’d give a little update here too. As of Sunday, I have the entire coat sewn together, the ends woven in (that was some serious weaving hell!), and I’m ready for the finishing details.
Whew! Can I tell you how much a relief it is? I seriously want to rush through and get all that done and get it in the mail, so I can finish the baby blanket I’m working on, so I can back to knitting for me! I miss knitting for me so badly and I think this project was stealing some of my mojo.
Hubby and I went to Cambria last week while we were on vacation and I got to visit the very lovely Ball & Skein & More. I have to confess that I bought a sweater quantity of Manos del Uruguay Alegria Grande worsted yarn in an absolutely stunning colorway (Malvin) that I could not keep my eyes off of. It had to be special ordered since I bought 8 skeins of it and they only had 7 in the store. I cannot wait until I get it and can pet it until it’s time to cake it up and cast on!
But I digress. See how excited I am for other projects? LOL Here are some recent pics of the sweater coat! First, I laid out the entire pattern on my office / craft room floor. As you can see, I had a little helper. I sewed every single row across. Then, I steam blocked every strip of squares to exactly 6″ x 6″.
After blocking, I put it back in the same order and then sewed each strip of rows together, using flexible stitch markers to perfectly match up each square. After that was matching up the arms, underarms and side. You can see one side done here and the other side ready to sew together. After that, it was a crap ton of ends to sew in!
And here’s where we are right now. Ready for the finishing touches and then a wash/dry and final blocking! Isn’t that a cute little detail with the side split?
Wish me luck in finishing up the rest of it as soon as possible! I seriously want to get back to knitting for me.
Until next time, Happy Knitting…or Crocheting too!
