Once Upon a Sock – December 2018

Whoa guys and gals! My sincerest apologies for not getting this post up there and out there at midnight my time last night! I seriously thought I had another week. Oopsies! I guess with all that comes with the holiday season, it slipped my mind. Anyhoo…I’m here and I’m ready to talk about my socks…or lack of progress, I should say.

BTW, I’m not sure about the format of the new InLinkz site and hope that the link works. If not, I’ll fix it soon. I’m kind of in a rush because I have a doctor appointment this morning. The same thing with my blog…I was trying out a new look and know that I didn’t hit save, yet voila! I have a new look to my blog. I’ll tidy things up a bit later.

So, where was I? Oh yeah, socks. I knew that I was going to make the Parkamoor Socks from our very own Katherine of fiber and sustenance. She hosted a KAL on Instagram for the month of November and I was excited to knit a long. I chose the yarn that was sent to me by my sock swap partner, Reanna from  Knit, Reanna, knit earlier this year. It is absolutely gorgeous and I have been dying to see that sparkle knit up into something. It’s Blue Moon Fiber Arts Super Sparkle in the colorway “Simply Succulent”. It is 92% Merino, 8% Other and is 120 grams. Check out this gorgeousness!

I did a gauge swatch and determine I needed the size 2, which is a cast on of 60 stitches. I’m using US 1 (2.25 mm) needles. I started out with two 36 inch needles; however I kept getting really bad ladders up the sides. I decided to switch to magic loop and it’s working out so much better. I’m also working on them TAAT (Two at a Time), which is my preferred method.

Here they are in all their sparkly glory! I adore the yarn…the sparkles make me so happy. I love the pattern. It’s written very well and I love the style. I haven’t gotten used to knitting cables without a cable needle; however Katherine gives you instructions for how to do that. She also offers different heels. As one who knits socks knows, not all heels fit every foot type.

After this week, I am off of work for the rest of the year…I don’t go back until January 2, 2019 (Eek!!!! Even seeing that year is crazy!) and I’m hoping for lots of crafting, knitting, crocheting, and general merriment. Here’s to hoping it doesn’t slip by in a flash like it does every year!
