Once Upon A Sock – October 2018

Hi All!

Do you knit or crochet socks? Do you like to blog about them and share your progress? The first Thursday of every month, my friends and I link up with each other and talk about our socks…the good, the bad, and the ugly. The beauty of a link up party is the ability to jump in and out when you want to share….even if you’ve knit just one row or want to talk about what you’re dreaming of making next. Click the link below to join in, follow the instructions, then link back to my blog so we can all share in the happiness of your gorgeous socks! Feel free to use the beautiful OUAS images Stefanie, from stefaniecraftswithwoolpaperfabric, created just for us. All three are included within my blog.

Remember how I said last month that I would DEFINITELY (fingers crossed) be finished with my Jelly Rolls? Yeah, that didn’t happen. Now, I SHOULD have been finished. I got up to the toes, and almost finished with the toes when I realized that I had made a mistake. Why did I wait until then to count my stitches to see how much further I had to go? Goodness only knows, but I did.

I guess it is one of the pitfalls of working magic loop and accidentally closing the loop at one end. When I readjusted the stitches on my second sock, I didn’t count properly. So, somehow I ended up with four stitches that were supposed to be on the front of the needles on the back of the needles…right before the toe stitches started.

Now, those that are not familiar with knitting (or a perfectionist) might say “Why didn’t you just keep going?” Why, dear friend, you are not familiar with the kitchener stitch, are you? You must have the same number of stitches in front as in back…you cannot just move the stitches back to the front…it would mess up the whole line of the sock due to the decreases! There is no way in the world you would spend that much time knitting a sock and then messing it up at the end, would you?

So, dear friend, I tinked back to the beginning of the toe. It was painful…it was slow because of the tiny stitches and the natural yarn that wanted to stick together. But I did it. I am now ready to move forward. And I’m not promising anything this month (these have been on the needles since 6/16)…that way I may actually get it done.

See the orange to the blue section on the sock? That’s how much I had to frog…one stitch at a time 😦

BTW, I feel like I’ve lost my crafting mojo this year. I’ve barely finished anything and it makes me sad. My blog has suffered because of it too as I really haven’t had much to share. Send good vibes and / or prayers my way if you feel so inclined. I need to find myself again.

Until next time, Happy Knitting!

  1. I’m sorry you’ve lost your mojo a bit. I have definitely had times in the past where life has been difficult and knitting has slipped. Your jelly roll socks are so cute though! Now that you’ve gone through all the pain of tinking back, finishing the toes will seem like a breeze, I promise 🙂

I am behind this month (pesky work) and had ENTIRELY forgotten that today is the first Thursday of the month, so my post will be on Saturday, but it is coming!

Sending lots of love to you. xx

    1. Thanks, Kat! I hope my mojo comes back and the last of the toe knitting flies by. Wish me luck 😀 You can still link up to today’s post…I have it set so people can add to it all month if they wish 🙂 I can’t wait to see what you’ve cooked up for your next post!

    1. Yep…it sure did! I believe I’ve heard the term Socktober; however haven’t seen it in a long time…probably not since last year, LOL. They are super fun to knit and there are so many variations you can take with them. It’s very versatile and I can see this being a “go to” sock pattern for me. I adore shortie socks.

It sounds like it’s been a bit of a year for you, so it’s understandable that your mojo has slipped off for a little while. Thinking good, knitty thoughts for you though! And well done for facing the ripping back.

I have just snuck my OuaS post into the link up. 😉
